Please know that I will make you feel very comfortable and at ease. I will also go through your privacy and confidentiality rights and provide information about the therapeutic arts process, informed consent and general information such as making payments, cancellations and contact between sessions.

8.

Is this Art Therapy?

No this is not art therapy. Clinical art therapy in Australia involves a masters degree qualified art therapist who uses artistic processes to help clients explore emotions, improve mental health, and address psychological issues in a structured environment. In contrast, non-clinical therapeutic arts sessions are typically more informal and may not involve a licensed therapist (I am a qualified facilitator and counsellor), focusing instead on self-expression and creativity without the intent to treat specific psychological conditions. While both utilise art as a medium for personal exploration and expression, clinical art therapy is more focused on therapeutic outcomes, whereas non-clinical sessions emphasise enjoyment and personal growth through creative expression. Please read my blog post about the differences between art therapy and non clinical therapeutic arts sessions to learn more and make an informed decision before you book a session.

9.

What if I realise during or after a session that I need mental health support?

Your safety during and after our sessions together is important to me. I encourage you to be open about any concerns that might arise in session and I will provide appropriate support and can also assist in referring you to a qualified mental health professional if needed.  Please be advised that non clinical therapeutics arts session are not therapy or standard talk therapy. Therapeutics Arts sessions in the context of the services provided by Middle Mess Therapeutic Arts are creative well being support facilitated by a qualified Therapeutic Arts Facilitator and Counsellor.

10.

I don't think I am artistic at all, can I still attend?

100% yes!  No artistic ability required. Just bring your art supplies, curiosity and an open mind.
